SHORTLAND'S Wetlands Centre has won an international award for contributions to education.

The centre took out the $US10,000 ($13,125) Ramsar Convention prize from 1400 other wetland sites around the world.

Centre chairman Christine Prietto said the award was a deserving reward for 150 volunteers at Shortland.

Ms Prietto will travel to Uganda in November to accept the prize.
